What can I do for my allergies to my cat?
Good question.. What can I do
for my allergies to my cat?
We have several cats but we know that cat allergies can be very serious for many
people. We have quite a few friends that are
allergic to cats but they can still come
over to the house and enjoy a nice evening. The reason they don't have problems is we take care of a few things.
On of the most important things to do is
keep the cat out of the bedroom. This is
your safe room and needs to be as clean as
possible. Keep the door closed.

The major pet allergen is found in their saliva, dander from sebaceous glands in the skin, fur, and anal sebaceous glands. Other pet allergens, including albumin, are found in the urine. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to cats include: red, itchy, watery eyes; nasal congestion; itchy nose; sneezing; difficulty in breathing, swelling of the feet, itchy throat or skin. Allergic reaction to cats can be lessened most successfully by minimizing exposure to the animals. If living with a cat is unavoidable, frequent hand washing and avoiding touching eyes or other sensitive areas is advisable. Minimizing upholstery, rugs and draperies in which the allergen can accumulate in the home is another strategy. Barring the cat from certain rooms (in particular the bedroom or other rooms where much time is spent) or limiting it to the outdoors is also partially successful.
