Easy Care Of Your Austin Air HEPA Air Cleaner
One of the reasons we like the Austin Air HEPA air cleaners is how easy it is to maintain. Whenever you are cleaning the room simply dust, wipe or vacuum the outside of the air cleaner. If you are using some type of spray cleaner we suggest you turn the air cleaner off. You don't want it sucking the 409 in. About once or twice a year we do open our air cleaner up, we have the Healthmate regular in our bedroom, and pull out the filter and prefilter and vacuum them.
DO NOT use any type of liquid cleaner on the filter because it will ruin it. Just vacuum it or hit it with compressed air.
We find that our filter lasts about 4 1/2 years between changes and ours run 24/7 365 days a year and we have 3 cats. By the way, ours is 12 years old and still going strong.

I've got an Austin air cleaner. Your right, they do last a long time. Mines been used as an end table, step stool and chair. Don't stand in the center of the top, it pushes down on the blower and makes a loud noise. What is the easiest way to tell if I need to change the filter?
