The Eyes Have It!

Eye allergies can affect anyone. Summertime is a great time of year for so many people. It's so much warmer than it was a few months back, flowers are blooming, the kids are out of school, picnics and pools. For those that suffer from allergies it can mean a lot of different things; sneezing, coughing and watery and itchy eyes.

For many their eyes react to allergens; mold, pollen, dust, pet dander, dust mites, grass and more. These allergens get in the eyes and inflame the tissue causing watery and itchy eyes. In many cases people take an antihistamine thinking it will help. In some cases these drugs will make matters worse by making the eyes dryer.

If you are one of these people, I am, here are a few things that can help you deal with eye allergies.

  • Use OTC eye drops that add moisture. I use Gentel Gel Drops
  • Don't rub your eyes
  • Keep your hands clean
  • Reduce contact wear time if possible
  • Clean your contacts often
  • Wear sunglasses to block the sun and the wind
  • Wash your bedding in hot water and anti allergen detergent to remove allergens

Eye allergies (allergic conjunctivitis) are a pain but you don't need to let them mess with your summer.

Wishing you the best of health
