Barbie and Dust Mites .. Related?
Happy Birthday Barbie!
I just got an email reminding me that it is Barbie’s birthday today. I can’t believe I forgot. She was born March 9, 1959... Still looking good after all these years.
It did remind me of a problem one of our customers had.
A few years ago we had a customer call and she thought her daughter may be allergic to her toys, one being her Malibu Barbie and she would be devastated it she had to stop playing with her.
Little girls do love their dolls.
I told her the good thing is unless she allergic to vinyl she is more than likely not allergic to her Barbie doll. Based on what she told me about her daughter’s room I suspected she was allergic to dust mites and dust in general.
Her daughter also collected stuffed animals, had lots of books, drapes and carpeting. All of these are what we consider dust collectors. For a child or adult with allergies the fewer dust collectors in the bedroom the better. Read rest of Article

Funny post
I never knew Barbie was born in 1959. She really does look good for her age. It's also a good thing for Mattel that little girls are not allergic to their dolls. It would kill their stock price.

Thanks
Neither did I until yesterday. I knew she had been around for awhile.
We get calls all the time about children and their toys. What are good toys? Can I wash the toys? Is there something I can spray on them that is safe? Are there such things as allergy proof ones?
I guess a Barbie doll is as allergy proof as you can get. The body is a flexible vinyl/plastic and her hair is a synthetic material. The clothes can be washed. When it comes to toys and allergens people really need to concentrate on the stuffed animals. They collect dust and within household dust you have dust mite allergens.

My daughter has allergies and loves her Barbies. Could I wash them with the Pet Shampoo or the Allergen Wash?

I guess you could use either one. The Pet shampoo would be more cost effective but the Allergen Wash is used for removing dust mite allergens. Personally I would just have her play with them in the bath tub.
