The US Department of Agriculture has revised its forecast for the US cotton harvest on August 11.  See the Dow Jones newswire article here.

The revision caught traders by surprise.  The current harvest forecast was increased by 3.8% to a total of 16.6 million bales.

What does this have to do with allergies you ask?  Well, cotton is one of the most popular fabrics for bedding.  The AllerSoft 100% Cotton is one of our most popular sellers.  In addition, many of our other fabrics have cotton content.  People just love the feel of cotton on their bed.  The desire for cotton bedding doesn't stop at sheets and pillow cases.  People love cotton dust mite mattress covers, dust mite pillow covers, and dust mite duvet covers.  Also, cotton is used as the cover fabric for our wool-filled quilts.

In the past year, we have had several price increases from our suppliers due to a shortage of cotton. We have tried to hold prices down by passing little of these increases onto the consumer.  This revised estimate bodes well for ample supplies of cotton in the coming months, which should lead to a stable affect on prices.  While you may still not see deep discounting in the price of cotton products, supply shouldn't lead to sharp price increases.

So go ahead....enjoy your cotton bedding.  American farmers and textile workers will thank you for it.
