Time to Allergy-Proof those Blankets?
The recent cold snap has had some people pulling the lightweight blankets out of storage. While there will still be plenty of days of Indian Summer, nights will be getting chilly. Time to pull out the thermal cotton or Velux blankets. Thermal cotton and Velux are great choices for allergy-bedding because they stand up so well to repeated washing.
If your blankets have been sitting in the linen closet, cupboard or other storage, they have probably been collecting dust all summer. Its a good idea to wash them with a little De-Mite or Allergen Wash to freshen them up before you put them on the bed. This is especially true if you washed them before storing with a liquid fabric softener. The chemical treatment that makes the fabric soft also creates dust. Dust is the last thing you want to bring into your dust-proof bedroom. The same is true for your flannel or jersey sheets. If you used fabric softener, add 1/4 cup plain white vinegar to the rinse cycle to remove the dust-causing residue. The vinegar won't interact with your De-Mite or Allergen Wash, but your blankets might smell like pickles (or salad dressing) from the vinegar.
By the way, while Fall just started, it isn't too early to start thinking about winter bedding. Our wool mattress pads and all season comforters are great year around, but they are especially popular in winter. Because each wool item is made upon order, it can take 4 weeks or more for delivery. Something to keep in mind if you want wool bedding by December.
Snuggle up!
Til next time.
