Why Not Just Use Vinyl Dust Mite Covers

In a word … HOT.
Got a call yesterday from a women who was interested in putting dust mite covers on her bed because her doctor just told she was very allergic to dust mites. She was not really sure what dust mites were but she did enough research to know special covers for her bed would help.
We talked about the difference between membrane and non-membrane dust mite covers and which was best for her needs. When we got to price she wanted to know why she could not just put a vinyl cover on her mattress. They we cheap and since they were water-proof they would keep the dust mites and everything else in and out of the mattress.
She was 100% right. A vinyl mattress cover is cheap and effective. They are so very hot to sleep on.
Way back when, all of the dust mite covers were made with either rubber or heavy vinyl and the major complaint we got was they were hot to sleep on. Then came the light urathane membrane which allowed heat and moisture to pass while it still protected you from dust mites. The non-membrane covers we have today are lighter and cooler because there is not membrane to trap any of our body heat.
If price is the main issue, then by all means get a vinyl dust mite cover. It is better than nothing. This customer ended up getting our 100% cotton dust mite cover and I know she will be happy with her choice for years to come. Cooler too!

Easy Care Of Your Austin Air HEPA Air Cleaner

One of the reasons we like the Austin Air HEPA air cleaners is how easy it is to maintain.

Whenever you are cleaning the room simply dust, wipe, or vacuum the outside of the air cleaner. If you are using some type of spray cleaner we suggest you turn the air cleaner off. You don’t want it sucking the 409 in. About once or twice a year we do open our air cleaner up, we have the Healthmate regular in our bedroom, and pull out the filter and prefilter and vacuum them.

DO NOT use any type of liquid cleaner on the filter because it will ruin it. Just vacuum it or hit it with compressed air. We find that our filter lasts about 4 1/2 years between changes and ours run 24/7 365 days a year and we have 3 cats. By the way, ours is 12 years old and still going strong.

Does Tannic Acid Remove Allergens From Carpeting

Products like Allersearch Xmite Carpet Treatment really do work. The tannic acid in Xmite reduces the dust mite allergens by denaturing the proteins that are causing the allergic reactions. The application of the product is simple and straightforward. Sprinkle the Xmite carpet treatment powder on the carpet or rug and work it into the fibers with a stiff broom. Let it sit for about 3 hours and then vacuum the carpet. We do suggest you toss the vacuum bag when you are finished.
Each treatment with Xmite will last about 90 days.
