What are the Differences Between De-Mite Laundry Additive and Allergen Wash?

For years, doctors have recommended that people with allergies wash their bed linens weekly in hot water to remove household allergens such as dust mites. Unfortunately, hot water means water that is 140°F or higher.  In most cases this is a temperature cannot be had at home with residential water heaters. In most cases your hot water is going to be around 102 to 105.
The good news is the marketplace listened and developed some products you can use to remove allergens from your sheets and other bedding no matter the water temperature, Demite Laundry Additive and Allersearch Allergen Wash. (Read Complete Article)

Why You Should Cover Your Box Springs

Quite often when we are helping our customers figure out which dust mite mattress cover is best for their needs they want to know why they should worry about covering the box springs. After all you are not sleeping directly on it like you are your pillows and mattress.
Even though you are not sleeping on the box springs dust mites are still living and breeding in them. The top, bottom and sides are made out of fabric which allows the allergens from dust mites to escape in to the air. If you are trying to get rid of dust mite allergens in your bedroom you really need to eliminate as many hiding places as possible.
When it comes to what mattress cover to put on your box springs we generally recommend our vinyl mattress covers. They are made out of a heavy duty 6 guage vinyl, waterproof and are very cost effective. Just like all of our dust mite covers they are fully zippered.

Zippered Mattress Covers are Not Just For Dust Mites Anymore…

For years we have sold zippered mattress covers to our customers to help them with their dust mite allergies. They had gone to the doctor, went through the tests, were told they were allergic to dust mites and they need to cover the mattress. We also sold the zippered covers to people who are looking for something waterproof to put on the mattress.

Now days we are selling more zippered covers to customers that are having to deal with bed bugs or just want to keep their mattress and pillows cleaner. Now not all zippered covers are effective against bed bugs. We don’t recommend the non-membrane covers for the mattress because bed bugs can chew their way through the fabric. In fact one of our manufactures has developed a line of mattress covers with the help of the pest control industry that is bed bug specific. These zippered mattress covers are on our bed bug covers page.

If your concern is protecting a mattress against moisture we suggest you use one our membrane fabric zippered covers. The membrane is created by a urethane coating on the back of the fabric. This coating makes the fabric water-proof yet keeps it from being hot like vinyl covers can be. These type of zippered mattress covers are perfect for kids – baby to collage – beds.

One last thing I want to point out is any zippered cover will help to keep your mattress and pillows clean. I read a study once that said a mattress can double in weight in 12 years. That is a lot of dust mites, parts and feces in the mattress. And while I’ve never had my mattress professionally cleaned I don’t know of any vacuum that can remove the allergens and dust mites from the middle of a mattress.

The simple solution to keep your mattress free of pests and clean is to use zippered mattress and pillow covers.
