School is out or just about out all over the country and many of you will be hitting the road for summer vacation. To protect against dust mites you would be wise to pack your dust mite covers for your pillow or take your pillows with you. Not to say your aunts or the hotels pillows are dirty, but we all know unless they are covered they will have dust mites.  We have many of our customers who even take a fitted mattress cover and a bottle of ADMS spray. They take no chances.

Why risk waking up feeling bad and not getting the most out of your vacation. Pack your dust mite covers and have a great time.

Here is some information from the Harvard Medical School that may give hope to people that suffer from allergies, especially those that are having a hard time finding relief.

Researchers at the School of Medicine of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), are working on a new type of subcutaneous immunotherapy, or SCIT—commonly called allergy shots—designed to provide protection against the type of allergies that do not typically respond well to traditional SCIT (such as cat allergies) or that are too dangerous to be treated this way (such as food allergies).

The work is in its earliest stages, but it is generating considerable interest in the scientific community.

The UCLA researchers have designed a protein (made by fusing a cat protein, Fel d 1, and a human immune system
molecule, IgG Fcg1) that simultaneously boosts immune response while shutting down an allergic response to cats.

The method has been tested in mice (who were bred to be allergic to the cat protein) and in cultured blood samples from people. This research is being funded by the NIAID

Be prepared for a worse than normal allergy season. The record snowfall followed by very early and heavy rains have got the tree and grass pollens flying. In North Carolina last week we were told by several people they have not seen the grass grow the way it is right now in years. It is like it was just waiting for the hard winter to be over. The trees and flowers were in full bloom even at 4,000 ft. So pretty but so bad for allergy sufferers.

With that being said there is no reason to suffer. Don”t forget to wear your dust or pollen mask when doing the yard work, put clean clothes on when you go inside and take your medication.
